Aviation DVDs
The following DVDs are part of the Aviation Documentary series produced by Andrew Schofield and Black Eagle Projects. Below is an overview of the documentaries and eight DVDs are available to order at present.
Vulcan Returns
DVD
This is the story of Avro Vulcan XH558's return to
the skies. Restored over a fifteen year period, XH558 displayed in
front of the public at RAF Waddington on the 5th of July 2008,
performing her first airshow display since 1992. We follow the build-up to
this event and see footage of the three practice displays needed
to get the display rating for the plane. Further airshow footage
features the Vulcan's displays at Farnborough in 2008.
The
documentary includes interviews with many Vulcan people. The pilots,
engineers and others involved with the Vulcan to the Sky Trust share their
experiences of the aircraft with us. Included is up-close footage of the
plane and a walk-around tour of the aircraft and a cockpit
tour.
Historic footage traces the Avro Vulcan from its design
stages to its role as nuclear deterrent in the Cold War and later use
as a conventional bomber in the Falklands conflict.

Airshow UK 1
DVD
Airshow UK 1 features 106 minutes of amazing airshow
footage, including interviews with pilots and background information. The
Vulcan has pride of place in Airshow UK 1. Airshow UK 1 covers selected
footage from Farnborough, Waddington and Kemble. Featured are The Red
Arrows, The Sarangs, Patrulla Aquila, The Vulcan, Spitfire, Chinook, The
Black Cats and many more.
Besides an introductory song and a tune at
the end, the rest of the coverage includes no music and the sounds of the
aircraft place you in the middle of the action.

Hawker Hunter
DVD
This documentary looks at the Hawker
Hunters operated by Delta Jets, who are based at Kemble Airfield in the
UK and specialise in the operation and restoration of classic
jets.
The film takes you inside the hangars at Delta Jets and
lets you meet the remarkable people who keep the vintage jets flying. The
engineers explain the Hunter's systems in a walk-around tour of the
aircraft. The pilots talk about their impressions of the Hawker
Hunter. Learn more about the history of the British and Swiss Hunters and
join the pilots inside the cockpit of this hugely popular aircraft and
enjoy superb air to air footage.
Extras include the "Delta
Hunter Experience", a flight with a passenger in the Hawker
Hunter.

Dakota DVD
This is the story of
an aeroplane that changed the face of aviation forever. Featuring extensive
historic footage, this documentary tracks the Dakota's history from the
beginning and chronicles its operational history, including the role the
Dakota played in the Second World War and the Berlin Airlift.
Kevin Furness, a Dakota engineer for over 40 years and an ex- South
African Air Force flight engineer, shares his rich knowledge about this
plane with us throughout the video. Kevin takes us on a tour of the plane
and we take a closer look at the Dakota's piston engines, carburettors,
wing attachments, rust and corrosion treatment, the undercarriage
and service intervals.
Also featured is the
background to turbo-prop conversions and the ongoing restoration of Dakota
6832 by the South African Air Force Museum at Air Force Base Ysterplaat in
Cape Town and Lt. Col. Andre Steenkamp, a transport pilot in the South
African Air Force, talks about flying the Dak.

Wings DVD
This film follows a
group of student pilots in the South African Air Force as they go through
all the training phases required to get their wings.
From the day
they arrive at the Central Flying School at Air Force Base Langebaanweg to
the day they get their wings, every aspect of their training is covered,
including simulator training, navigation, instrument flying, formation
flying and aerobatics. The flying instructors provide interesting inside
information and the documentary includes footage of the WIngs Parade held at
the end of the course.

Smoke on Go DVD
This film is
about the pride of the South African Air Force, the Silver Falcons. The
aerobatic displays have been filmed from every angle and position
possible - from the ground, from alongside the formation to inside
the formation which gives the impression of being part of the team. Included
is a full display sequence from the perspective of the team with
all radio communications between the team members.
All narration is
done by the team members of the Silver Falcons themselves. They talk about
the history of the team, provide us with background information about the
team, explain their display routine and talk about their G-suits. Also
included is a full pre-show briefing.
Additional footage covers
the Silver Falcon's 40th anniversary celebrations, the fly-offs to
select a new member of the team, the hand-over from team 65 to team 66 at a
parade at Air Force Base Langebaanweg and the first display with Maj. Scott
Ternent as the new leader of the team.

Avro Shackleton DVD
This is the
story of Shackleton 1722, the last flying Mk3 Shackleton in the world until
it was grounded in early 2008. Filmed mainly at Air Force Base Ysterplaat
when 1722 still flew regularly, this film features in-depth interviews with
the crew and up-close tours of the aircraft and its systems, given by
the crew themselves. See how the "Shack" is lovingly cared for
by Pottie, Buks, Pat and others whose passion and dedication to this
remarkable aircraft kept her spirit alive.
The
documentary includes comprehensive flight footage with all the checks
and Griffon engine noises, including pre-flight checks, engine
start-ups, taxying, flight footage from the ground as well as from within
the aircraft and shut-down checks.
Historic footage covers the
design background and the operational history of this long range
maritime patrol aircraft. A section is dedicated to Shackleton 1716 and the
survivors of Shackleton 1716, which crash-landed in the Saharan desert in
1994. Also included is an interview with Sqdn. Ldr. Brian Withers at
the Newark Air Museum in the UK to discuss the role of the Shackleton in the
Royal Air Force and give us a rundown on Shackleton WR977.

Airshow DVD
This film brings
you selected coverage from four airshows: Africa Aerospace & Defence
2006 held at Air Force Base Ysterplaat, The 2007 Overberg Airshow held
at the Test Flight and Development Centre near Bredasdorp, the 2007
Springbok Airshow and the Red Arrows display from Duxford in the UK.
This is number one in the Airshow series so you can look forward to
longer and bigger future offerings which will be filmed in the UK, France
and of course South Africa.
